(Opening remarks from Class Compositions in a Time of Fascism. Watch here.)
Class Compositions is a new Common Notions book and event series dedicated to circulating the best militant research and theoretical interventions around from dynamic historical reproductions to cutting edge dispatches from new worlds just beginning to emerge.
Our programming, including todays program, will draw on the rich autonomist tradition to aid militants and working-class intellectuals, political collectives and study groups using workers’ inquiry and class composition to identify the “invading socialist society,” take on the “planetary work machine,” further “working-class self-activity,” and refuse the imposition of work as it “is still the central issue” we confront in our daily lives.
Class Compositions is beginning with a set of historical reproductions.
Our first two titles are Reading the Planetary Class Struggle: The Collected Works of George Caffentzis, Volume I edited by Silvia Federici and George Caffentzis and Points of Departure: Refusal of Work and the Crisis of Capitalism: The Writings of Harry Cleaver edited by Robert Ovetz and Kevin Van Meter.
This June in Chicago we will have a special release of Points of Departure at Labor Notes and will release the book formerly on Friday June 12th at Pilsen Community Books.
This November in London events are being planned at and around Historical Materialism.
Finally, we are organizing an online series with international views on workers inquiry, and more details will be forthcoming.
