Rust Belt Rising

Building Solidarity and Worker Power in Rochester, New York

Saturday, August 15th, 9am-6pm

Sunday, August 16th, 9am-2pm

Join author, labor educator, and union organizer Kevin Van Meter for a workshop as part of the conference on Saturday. Time TBD.

Labor Education for All Workers
How can we include labor education in every aspect of our organizing? This workshop will provide participants best practices on how to run robust labor education programs for union members and all workers. Labor education can happen everywhere: steward council meetings, all member meetings, workplace and union newsletters, on union bulletin boards and on social media, as part of political education programs, and informally member-to-member. Participants will plan a formal program for their union or workplace along with exploring study and reading groups, writing workshops, hosting public events, speak outs and story-telling nights, zines and blogs, creating working-class culture, and mentoring new workers.

“Labor Education for All Workers” is based upon an article of the same in New Politics, Online Edition, 1 April (2024) available here: https://newpol.org/labor-education-for-all-workers/
